5 Reasons why you should do HiiT training. Spice up your Ex[ercise] life part 3.



First of all what is HiiT style training ?


HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a broad term for workouts that involve short periods of intense exercise alternated with recovery periods.


What are the benefits of HiiT training ?


1. Time

Most peoples biggest excuse for not exercising is a lack of time. The best thing about HiiT training is that it doesn’t take long at all! Most HiiT sessions are anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes long. For example – one of the most well-known type of HiiT intervals is Tabata which is 8 rounds 20s on:10 sec rest – i.e. 4 mins total – you could pick two exercises e.g. squats and push-ups – and that’s an 8 minute workout done!


One of the other reasons why it doesn’t take long is that you are often working at a higher intensity in your working period – and rest periods allow you to maintain working at a higher intensity.


2. You burn more calories in a shorter amount of time.


One study compared the calories burned during 30 minutes each of HIIT, weight training, running and biking.

The researchers found that HIIT burned 25–30% more calories than the other forms of exercise.


3. Higher resting metabolic rate.


HIIT workouts helps you burn calories even after you are done exercising. Several studies have demonstrated HIIT workouts can increase your metabolic rate for hours after exercise. This works by producing excess post-oxygen consumption (EPOC), EPOC raises your resting metabolic rate for twenty-four hours or more after your training session – which means you continue to burn calories!


4. It’s great for rehab (and prehab!).


Have you got an injury? Doing cardio HIIT stimulates different hormonal and chemical responses within the body that helps provide an ideal environment for tissue healing. Research has shown that the growth factors required to strength tendon , ligament and muscle are released with HiiT style training.


Not to mention doing HIIT is a great way to stay healthy and fit while injured so you don't lose your fitness and also in the later stages will help PREVENT injury.


5. Variation! You won’t get bored!


HIIT is way more entertaining then roaming around the gym doing machine after machine for 60+ mins. You can pick different exercises all the time or change the time period of your intervals to mix it up!
