Cabin Fever? Stir Crazy? How to get through self-isolation in four easy steps:





ROUTINE



• Stay in routine! Treat your week like a normal work week, especially if you have to work from home. This will help you to not only establish healthy work boundaries, but you’ll be more productive and reduce the chance of procrastination, something we all become experts at after a few days at home.

• Only work on the days or times you’re required to; just because the computer is accessible all day and weekend doesn’t mean you should continue to work outside of your normal hours.

• Continue with your normal hobbies, they made need some adjusting given our new boundaries but keep exercising, reading or find other fun activities to be a part of your life.

• Maintain your normal sleeping habits to avoid over sleeping which can lead to a lack of motivation.



POSITIVE THINKING


• Maintaining a healthy frame of mind during hardship is extremely important, don’t be afraid to reach out for help if you need.

• Use your time wisely while you are at home and try not to focus on what you can’t do, rather think about what you can do. Perhaps there are projects you always wanted to accomplish but haven’t had the time. Renovations? A book you’ve always wanted to read? Does the garage can finally get a well needed clean out? Make a list of things you would like to do at home and within what time frame or priority. This will keep you motivated, accountable and proactive throughout the day. A sense of accomplishment is very important and helps the time to fly by.


SOCIAL CONTACT


• Isolation can be a lonely time, however it doesn’t have to be!

With plenty of modern technology options such as Facetime, Skype or just your average phone call can keep your mental health and therefore physical health in good shape. Remember if you’re at home with family and conflict arises, spending time completing separate activities can be a healthy way to create distance without leaving the house. If you live alone, ensure you regularly touch base with friends and family to maintain healthy social contact.


EXERCISE


• A good way to keep a good routine is to continue or begin exercise!

As gyms and sporting teams are closed, this doesn’t mean that your training schedule has to stop.
